Day 1 at London Fashion Week AW15
Written by our official blogger - Poppy Dinsey
Another season has kicked off and it started with a bang!
With TONI&GUY session teams working across dozens of shows once again this season, we were always guaranteed to see some fabulous hair on the catwalk, but I wasn’t expecting to see quite so much brilliance all in one day.
My day started at Fashion Scout where International Artistic Director Maria Galati was heading up the TONI&GUY team backstage at Jamie Wei Huang.
As you can see from the outfit above, there was a very sexy theme to Jamie’s AW15 collection. She’d used the film ‘Nympomaniac’ as a starting inspiration point, with the idea of a downtrodden but determined sex addict who constantly picks herself up and carries on no matter what life throws at her. With 50 Shades breaking all box office records, why not start LFW with some light bondage eh?!
The hair was heavily textured thanks to liberal use of label.m Sea Salt Spray and label.m Hold & Gloss.
For some of the models, Maria created ‘scarves’ with the hair so that the girls were almost being throttled by their own locks. Again this just really added to the bondage feel of the collection and complemented the entire aesthetic.
I am sure we’ll see even more great things from Jamie in the future!
From there I rather excitedly went to get my own hair seen to at the on-site TONI&GUY salon. I was lucky enough to be in the safe hands of Becky Irving from TONI&GUY Teddington for my Fashion Fix.
With label.m celebrating their tenth birthday I thought there’d be no better way to celebrate than to use one of their newest releases, the Brunette Texturising Volume Spray. You can see how much texture it gave me!
I’m a huge fan of this product and LOVE the volume it gives my usually fine and flat hair.
Having thoroughly spoilt myself at the salon, I headed backstage to Jean-Pierre Braganza to see what Indira Schauwecker and the team were up to there.
I really loved this hair look as it was chic but undone, almost as though you’d had a nice updo put in for a smart event but then had a bit of a wild night and slept in it before heading off to work again.
label.m Sea Salt Spray was being used for texture, but it was the limited edition Giles x label.m Hairspray that I was really REALLY excited to see! I can’t wait to stock up on a few bottles of these myself! They’re so pretty!
The hair looked great on the catwalk, especially from behind where you could really appreciate the tucked in details. I heard lots of positive things from the beauty journalists around me, this was a look that everybody was keen to try for themselves!
It was then a mad dash over to The Waldorf to see what Cos Sakkas, London Hairdresser of the Year 2014, was up to at Paul Costelloe…
Paul’s clothes are eternally feminine and Cos has done some beautiful hair to complement these looks in recent seasons. This season’s hair might be my favourite yet though.
Volume was key (just look at it!) but the baby hairs falling loose helped add some softness to the look. These were the opposite of overly structured beehives and it definitely wasn’t about being sleek and polished.
Texture was important once again so label.m Volume Mousse, label.m Resurrection Dust and label.m Texturising Volume Spray were all utilised to really get that height and softness.
For my last show of the day it was the one and only sass & bide show at Australia House. Sacha Mascolo-Tarbuck, Global Creative Director of TONI&GUY and label.m, headed up the team and once again it was a show that was all about texture.
The clothes themselves were very strong, with almost every single piece being a statement piece with hand stitching, metallics and embellishment. The hair had a real rock edge to complement the fierceness of the collection.
There was plenty of label.m Resurrection Style Dust on hand to create the desired texture. It’s definitely a look I’d love to try for myself.
And that was it for Day 1! We’ve definitely started things off well :)
