Day 1 at LFW SS15 (and 10 years as Official Sponsors of London Fashion Week!)

My feet are sore, I’m considering changing my wedding hair to a glitter gel centre parting and I’ve got three bottles of coconut water in my handbag. THREE. This can only mean one thing….London Fashion Week has officially begun.

LFW is always an exciting time, but this season there’s even more to celebrate as TONI&GUY have now spent 10 years as Official Sponsors of London Fashion Week. My mind boggles a bit when I try to figure out how much label.m Volume Mousse will have been used in that time!

And what better way to celebrate the past ten years than to look to the future by doing what TONI&GUY do best? Creating great hair!

I managed to cram in six shows today - and that only scratches the surface! All the designers at Fashion Scout (yep, really, all of them!) work with the TONI&GUY Art Team and so it makes sense that that’s where my morning started.

I headed backstage to Jamie Wei Huang where Maria Galati was creating an undone casual look to mirror the laidback collection. What I really loved about Jamie’s clothes was that they took inspiration from different professions - everything from mechanics to bankers! Because of this link back to industry, albeit in a casually tailored way, Maria dabbed label.m Souffle randomly around the curve of the head.

The resulting look was as if a sleeping beauty had gotten paint in her hair whilst working. It looked amazing on the catwalk!

From there it was a quick nip to Ones To Watch. The Ones To Watch show features the collections of not one but FOUR up and coming designers, so it’s a particularly interesting show to see come together back stage.

Silje Vincent was heading the team and I didn’t envy her responsibility this morning. Finding one hair look that will complement the collections of four very different designers is no easy task!

In the end there was a mix of looks with coloured wigs (yey, Powder Sprays!), hats and simple textured braids.

After all this I was ready to get my own hair done (why not, it has to be one of the perks of the job right?!) and so I headed over to the TONI&GUY on site salon at Somerset House where Georgia Rose from TONI&GUY Westfield White City gave me a trim and a Pretty in Punk Fashion Fix.

I know I get this Fashion Fix a lot but I can’t help it, I LOVE IT. I felt like it would be the perfect hair look to match my insanely comfy sports luxe outfit - which is head to toe Warehouse if you’re a fan of bright prints :)

I had more to do at Somerset House than just pose though, there were street style pics to snap (see the best outfits on the label.m page on WIWT here) and, very excitingly, the prep was underway for Jean-Pierre Braganza!

Obvs we’re all a little bit obsessed with JP but it’s with good reason, his clothes are phenomenal season after season and he and Indira Schauwecker seem to have the type of creative connection that’s rare to come across. They truly ‘get’ each other, which you can see in the hair which is always just right for the collection.

Indira summarised the look as ‘hippy on a Harley’ and this was nothing like the biker look we saw at Giles last season, this was a more feminine and relaxed version of biker chic. Less helmets, more natural. It looked FAB on the catwalk.

Meanwhile at Fashion Scout, Chie Sato was working on a futuristic geisha look for Ong-Oaj Pairam. It was a complex look to achieve but the result was definitely worth it!

From there I headed to Paul Costelloe. Paul has a special place in my heart, mainly because he’s a living legend but also because his SS11 show was the first LFW show I ever attended. This is my tenth season covering LFW, so I can’t even begin to imagine how proud TONI&GUY Global Creative Director Sacha Mascolo-Tarbuck must be of reaching ten years as an Official Sponsor!

The hair at Paul Costelloe was being headed up by Cos Sakkas and I have to admit it was one of the best LFW hair looks I’ve ever seen. I love a dramatic beehive anyway but add a slightly dishevelled twist and I will quickly declare it the best thing in the world!

label.m Volume Mousse prepped the hair but it was label.m Resurrection Style Dust which really filled the air. You could see it everywhere backstage! The backcombing was insaaaaaaane and all the models looked like Sideshow Bob for a far while before the beehive was finished off. But when it was finished….wow.

That wasn’t it for me though! There was still PPQ to go and with Sacha herself heading up the team I was very excited to see what she’d create. I’d heard mutterings of a ‘modern day tiara’ featuring, but I would never have imagined a centre parting encrusted with gel and glitter!

This was an amazing amazing hair look and it looked so strong under the lights. The show was in an underground nightclub and the effect was out of this world. Which was fitting, as the show was called ‘Space Safari!’.

I’ll be back at LFW tomorrow for more fun and games so follow me on the@labelmuk Twitter account for the latest as it happens. I can’t wait to share all the video!

Congrats again to everyone at TONI&GUY for achieving 10 years as Official Sponsors of London Fashion Week :D
